Small Transitions Can Make Big Impacts on Your Energy and Happiness
When there's no separation between "work-life" and personal life, our energy declines, we lose focus, and can feel overwhelmed. Pre-pandemic routines of dressing for work, stopping for coffee, and commuting have all been disrupted. These routines to and from the office gave us mental and physical "transition" time.
When working remotely: create transitional moments during the day. Examples:
Light a candle or turn off a light when the workday "ends. Closing your laptop is a powerful signal that says "I'm done for today" and opening your laptop the next morning can help ignite energy and focus.
Have a coffee or tea ritual to start or end the day.
Write the next day's "to do" list on a piece of paper that you leave on the desk and walk away.
Leave your laptop in an area that is separate from the living space and close the door (or open the door the next morning).
When we constantly go from one thing to the next thing it feels overwhelming.
And - stop multi-tasking! Multi-tasking has been proven to degrade self-reported levels of happiness and well-being.
